Background

       Previously, the last year medical students of Lampang medical education center were taught in pediatric advanced life support ( PALS ) according to AHA guideline 2010 in manner of lecture. Some of them were not attentive and sleepy, result in ineffectiveness of learning and practice. New method in PALS teaching was applied.  

Summary of Work

       PALS teaching was devided in five sections, PALS guideline lecture, three stations of practice (chest compression and assisted ventilation , foreign body removal and defibrillation) and CPR team management.Twenty minutes were used in each section. According to CPR team management, the students were divided in two groups to join in different simulation of cardiopulmonary resuscitation which team work was emphasized. Questionares about satification and observation during CPR team management by making checklists were used to evaluate the teaching. 

Summary of Results

       40 medical students were taught in new method. All medical students interested and satisfied in teaching. 70% of all medical students could practice correctly in simulation of cardiopulmonary resuscitation. All medical students suggested mini-workshop made them understand PALS guideline more than lecture alone. 

Conclusion

        PALS mini-work shop teaching improved medical student knowledge of PALS guideline.
