Radiation Safety Precautions in the Management of the Hospitalized 131I Therapy Patient |
The most common radionuclide therapies performed in nuclear medicine departments is the administration of 131I for thyroid ablation for treatment of thyroid cancer(1) . Procedures regarding hospitalization and radiation safety measures vary from hospital to hospital.
To evaluate the extent of awareness of worker about radiation safety precautions in the management of the hospitalized 131I therapy patient. This is Cross-sectional study done using a self-administered, structured questionnaire comprising of two sections, the first section compromised of personal questions and the second section comprised of 11 questions regarding the basic knowledge of the radiation safety precautions in the management of the hospitalized 131I therapy patient.
We collect a response from 83 Respondents. According to the society of nuclear medicine and molecular imaging, the patient should drink one glass of water each hour 77.1% knows that Patients should sleep alone for 7 days 71.1% agrees with this answer. Patients maintain a distance of at least 3 feet from all people 81.9% is agreed with this answer.
Our research aimed to evaluate the awareness of nuclear medicine workers for basic knowledge of the radiation safety precautions in the management of the hospitalized 131I therapy patient. Most of them are aware but we recommended the rest to attend training courses for radiation protection.
Most of the nuclear medicine workers aware of radiation safety precautions in the management of the hospitalized 131I therapy patient
