Background

The aspect of medical school admissions rarely investigated is correlation between the student selection attributes and student academic performances in medical school. We present data to correlate psychometrics test and first year's academic performances to describe the effect of the student selection tools for student development.

Summary of Work

The aims of the research is to evaluate the ability of psychometric test to predict academic performance in medical school through grade point average  (GPA) score of first year students. Pre- admissions data were matched with GPA score of first year students who entered UNISBA Faculty of medicine in 2012. Spearman correlation test analysis was used as statistical analysis.

Summary of Results

156 students participated and showed significant correlations  with moderate relationship with  p<0,001  and  correlation  coeffisient (r  :0,31). Psychometrics test correlated positively with GPA score of first year students of medical school

Conclusion

Predictive validity data provides further evidence that Psychometric test is useful for medical student selection processes.

Take-home Messages

Psychometric test can be used for first year medical student performance prediction.
